An industry label can tell you what a company broadly is. It may not tell you which markets its offering is designed to serve. That distinction matters for B2B prospecting.
Industry and vertical are different layers
An industry describes the business category. A vertical often describes where the offering is used or which customer market it is built for.
Research the company's own market language
Industry pages, sector pages, product pages, solution pages and case studies can provide explicit evidence of served markets. The objective is to capture signals, not invent a vertical.
Build a consistent taxonomy
Define whether the dataset reports broad industries, sectors, niches or a hierarchy. Do not mix levels unless the brief requires it.
Verify vertical URLs
For candidate industry-page lists, check accessibility, company ownership and relevance to the intended market section.
